Torrevieja is a large town with over situated in the province of Alicante, and is located 41 km south of Alicante, 23 km from Elche, and 53 km north of Murcia.
Torrevieja gets its name from an old guard tower and became popular in 1802 when it took over the salt administration from Orihuela.
It was originally a salt-mining and fishing village as it is located between the sea and two large salt lakes (Las Salinas), which give Torrevieja a healthy micro climate. This protected Natural Park is one of the most important wetlands of Valencia and one of the most important salt farms in Europe.
Torrevieja has a 20 km of coastline containing six large beaches – La Mata, Cabo Cervera, Los Locos, El Cura, Los Náufragos and Ferris, with many coves, cliffs and beautiful views.
Torrevieja offers a wide range of shopping opportunities, containing approximately 2,500 shops. It has also numerous sports clubs, sports facilities, schools, hospitals and the popular shopping centre Habaneras and more recently La Zenia Boulevard.
The harbour in Torrevieja is home to over 300 fishing boats and over 900 private boats, at the Real Club Nautico of Torrevieja you can learn sailing and rowing.
Many fabulous golf courses are close by can be reached within 15 minutes. Villamartin Championship course, Las Ramblas, Campoamoar and Cuidad Quesada courses.
Alicante airport is approximately 30 minutes and San Javier airport 35 minutes drive away.
